Atvrcr - The Best Games of 2010

Before I start let me make this clear, all games featured in this list are based on US release dates.

The views and opinions expressed in this post do not necessarily reflect the views of Atv-Oni-Ota blah blah blah

I've played plenty of great games this year so it was a hard choice. You may notice that there are no FPS or racing games in this list. Let me get this out of the way first, if you say were is my Call of Duty or where is my Fallout... move the f*ck on, you aren't going to find those in this here list.

Anyways lets get on with this thing.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes PSP Update 2

Alright everyone, two more videos were released on the Milky Holmes Website. This time, I actually took the time to subtitle the videos. I tried my best, but I was still unable to translate everything correctly. If I was unsure of a line, I added an asterisk to the end of it. Make sure that when you watch, the subtitles are on.

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes PSP Update

That's right, an update! The Milky Holmes Website released a new video showing a nice scene. Just in case you are unable to follow what they are saying here is a bit of a summary. The group is deciding on the name of their team. Everyone agrees that it's a good idea, but Sheryl decides to take it a step further and have everyone shout it out right then and there. Anyway, they apparently come up with the lewd yet lolitastic name Milky Holmes quite spontaneously, and the scene ends with a nice group shot.

Based on this scene I'm guessing it's safe to say that the PSP game's events are stretching back before the events in the anime. We know that the girls of Genius4 are going to be in the game as well, so perhaps the game spans the anime's story. However it is more likely that the game follows it's own story altogether.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Things I Want

This isn't going to be one of those "I want this but don't have enough money" posts. I've been saving my money diligently. And I will have enough to buy Christmas presents for my family, and still afford the 2 games I wanted! Ahh, yes. It is a very comforting feeling to know that I have hundreds of dollars to dish out on games from Japan. Anyway, onto the list!

1. Tantei Opera: Milky Holmes [Limited Edition]
Price tag: Around $100 I believe
Mostly I want this game for the cuteness. The extreme loli cuteness. But I also want this game because I've fallen in love with the anime. I've visited the game's official site and found some voice samples, and even the guys have voice samples included, so I'm guessing it is fully voiced and that is a big plus. Also, I've become somewhat of a Cordelia fan. So please respect my wishes and stay the crap away from her.

2. Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii wake ga Nai Portable [Limited Edition]
Price tag: Probably around like $120...
I'm not that in love with the anime. Well, I am, but the hype around it sort of makes me want to not like it because I'm weird like that... But I do like seeing cute anime girls on my psp. I also like hearing them talk. I could care less about routes and item and such. I just want to hear the lolis talk and make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And neighbor-girl is super hot.

3. Flying Lessons
Price tag: Around $5000
Alright, I can't afford this one. But it would be a nice gift from Santa-san. Haven't you ever wanted to fly? I'm dead serious. Ever since I saw Porco Rosso back when, I've wanted to fly a plane. A sea plane specifically :3

So, leaving aside the flying lessons for a moment, I will most likely be getting both of these games. The odds are close to 100%.  Since many blogs seem to already be covering the Ore Imo PSP game, I'm going to continue to cover the Milky Holmes PSP game as I find more thing out about it. Check back often for any updates!

Tantei Opera: Milky Holmes PSP

Tantei Opera Milky Holmes is getting a PSP release. It will be an adventure game, which I'm guessing means a visual novel. It's scheduled for a mid December release. The game's homepage is here. Visit the Play Asia page here. Well, no matter what kind of game it is, if it's fully voiced odds are high that I'll buy this because of the cute art. More updates to follow as I track down more information.

I finally Decided on a Game!

Yes finally... I was in the mall today in gamestop and I had Blazblue: Continuum Shift in my hands. I was looking at the box and admiring the slick 2D graphics. And then I decided. NO! I decided to go home and immediately buy that delicious Hello Kitty game for psp.

So I get home and go to Play Asia and what do you know... It's back-ordered. By this time I'm panicking. After a bit of browsing, I happened to find Loopop Cube for psp. I had no idea what this game was about and really, I still don't. But after reading this review and seeing how passionate this person was about the game, I just had to buy it. As a bonus, it was on sale!

Super Cute Time: Hello Kitty to Issho! Block Crash 123!!

As I've said many times, I'm not interested in plot. What I like to see in my games is fantastic art. And for me, the cuter the better. While on one of my usual random walks around the playasia website, I came across this Hello Kitty game with cuteness galore.

Chou Jigen Game: Neptune

I don't have that much of an idea what this game is about, but the cute characters and all girl cast drew me in. Apparently the girls are supposed to be anthropomorphic versions of different consoles

Kyaa~ Amiami has the limited edition version that comes with a tote bag, soundtrack cd, 40 page art book, and an exclusive Amiami telephone card. I just don't know if I feel comfortable buying a $100 game though T_T

K-ON! Houkago Live!!

I don't even normally like rhythm games, but for something as cute and moe as K-ON, I can make an exception. Sure, I've wanted the Hatsune Miku PSP game, but when that came out I had no money, and as time went on, I just decided not to get it. The one good thing about rhythm games is that they probably require very little to no knowledge of Japanese to play.

The recently released gameplay video shows it all:

I wasn't too interested in the anime. I loved it, but I never actually even finished the first season. Seeing this video makes me want to finish the anime and buy this game at the same time. But, knowing me... No matter how badly I want it, at around $65.00, I'll never be able to bring my self to buy it. The game is set for release on September 30th on PSP.

Witch's Wish - Review (Nintendo DS)

So yes, the day after I posted that post about there being no copies of Witch's Wish within 100 miles of me, I check the Gamestop website to find that a store about 15 minutes from me had the game. Anyway, I got it the other day, and I beat the story last night.

Overview: Witch's Wish is basically an interactive anime on a DS. Let me explain. First, the game plays in chapters. It has 12 normal chapters and 1 chapter that you unlock after completing the game; much like a normal anime that comes with a special episode upon release. Second, each chapter takes anywhere from 15 to 35 minutes to complete. Third, you don't really have much choices. The game pretty much flows along and asks you to do things that pretty much always lead to one outcome. But I'm not trying to say the game is bad. I'm just saying that it feels like an idea that was turned down as an anime and picked up as a Nintendo DS game haha. So then, let's start the review!

Witch's Wish Availability Rant

Well, Witch's Wish has been released and I still haven't gotten it. I've been thinking about buying it online but halfway through I stop and think of how long it's going to take and that I can't wait that long. However! This is just ridiculous because Witch's Wish clearly isn't coming to any retail stores near me any time soon. Here, take a look at this.

PSP Revival - Toradora Portable Addiction

After months of collecting dust next to my bed, I decided to reinstate my psp! Really, I'm amazed at how much more stuff this thing can do and how much nicer the screen is compared to the ds. Haha, after weeks of playing Pokemon Heart Gold.

Way back when, after watching Toradora, I became inspired to buy the Toradora Portable game because I had turned into such an intense Taiga fan. (This was back when the game had just come out.) My only problem was that, at the time, I didn't have a psp, and I was like $30 short of being able to buy one. So there I was, with a Toradora Portable game in the mail and no psp to play it on... T_T In the end, I was able to get a psp but the delivery was late. I went on a three day trip to the shore without any games for my new psp.

Now, on to the Toradora Portable part of this post. Toradora Portable is basically a visual novel with all of the characters from the anime. It's fully voiced by the same cast from the anime, which is nice because I'm no good with kanji, and because Kugimiya Rie is the best loli VA ever. The story has nothing at all to do with the story from anime as far as I can tell. Ryujii wakes up with amnesia one day and the awesomeness follows. In addition to the main visual novel, multiple mini games are included. There's a pong-type game, which gets horribly boring, a 2d platform scrolling fight game, which is pretty impossible to beat, and some kind of interactive clock. There may be more, but I wouldn't know since I didn't buy the special edition. The box says there are 120 CG, but I've only seen about 4 so far. Haha, I fail.

When I bought Toradora Portable, I don't remember playing it that much. But since the other day, I've been playing it like crazy. It may have something to do with the fact that I know much more Japanese than I did before, but I can't be sure. I never stay interested in a game for long...

Nonetheless, Toradora is a great game that should be played by any fan of lolis, Taiga, or Toradora as well as people who have never seen the anime.

Toradora Portable Rating: 8.5/10

Majo ni Naru, or Witch's Wish, is going to be released in English in May! Or, at least, I hope May...

Onion's Type of Game

I like cute games. If the characters are cute, I'll play it, even if the story is a piece of poo. Take Kumatanchi, for instance. It's a ds game where you keep a little bear loli happy. She does cute things and you make money to teach her new cute things. Very cute. No plot. Just how I like my games.

This is probably why I failed at playing Star Ocean 4. I lost interest after only 5 hours of playing.(even though that was after the appearance of the loli! @_@) But I do like RPG's. Especially Pokemon. I've already played pokemon for 25 hours and I'm still enjoying it. Because Pokemon are cute.

Atvrcr's Quick Picks.

Every so often I will post a few random things that I think you may enjoy if you haven't already seen them. :D

Anime:

Special A - This is a nice lil anime that is guaranteed to make you laugh. Hikari is so damn awesome, enough said. It ran for 24 episodes and is from the 2008? season.

Mnemosyne - A good show, that is has everything you could want from an anime: Mystery, Action, and Yuri fuckwin and that's a fact.

Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha) - An older series from 1997. It has to be one of the funniest anime ever. Sana is the best. Episodes 1-52 are available from Funi, although the second half of the series is not.

Super Gals! - Greatness from 2004, this anime is zany, hilarious, and heartwarming. It consists of 52 episodes, you must watch, that's an ironclad rule!!!

Manga:

Shugo Chara - Many have watched the anime, but have yet to read the manga. This manga is infinitely times better, it does not consist of all the filler that was in the anime, and you will not get a shitty anime only ending.

Pastel - While this may not be the most original manga ever, it is definitely funny and cute.

Spiral - Some may have a bad taste in their mouth for this series if they ever watched the anime. Well forget about that autracity and pick up this manga, it is so so so much better and deserves to be read. It has a sub par plot in the grand scheme of things but it is so damn awesome with it's mysteries and deductive reasoning. Not to mention the characters are all awesome and mesh well together. It will leave you in suspense and will make you laugh at the same time.

Games:

BlazBlue - The best 2D fighter on the market, this thing will leave you in awe.

Lunar Silver Star Story/Harmony - This is a classic! THe story is decent, the characters are great. This may not seem like the game that will make you think it's going to be amazing, but when you are finished you will be like damn...that was epic.
